Turkish forces send reinforcements to Syria’s Tel Abyad

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday evening, Turkish forces sent a new military convoy consisting of logistical and military equipment to their outposts in Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa, northern Syria.

Turkish forces are deployed in more than 45 military posts and bases in the areas of Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain).

In October 2019, Turkish forces, along with their opposition factions of the Syrian National Army (SNA), occupied the cities of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad and their surrounding areas after a military operation dubbed ‘Peace Spring’. The invasion caused the displacement of approximately 300,000 of the region’s original inhabitants.

An administrator at the Tel Abyad border crossing told North Press that a Turkish military convoy consisting of more than 30 armored and logistical vehicles entered through the crossing at 9 pm on Tuesday and headed towards posts located in south of Tel Abyad city.

He added that the convoy included 20 armored vehicles, four trucks carrying ammunition and logistical materials, and six cannons. He believes that Turkish forces’ objective behind the reinforcements is to bolster their presence on frontlines.
