HTS arrests 9 people in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front) arrested nine people, including former military personnel in the city of Jisr al-Shughur and its countryside in western Idlib, northwest Syria, on security charges.
Since June 18, the HTS has been conducting a series of raids and arrests, primarily targeting its own militants and commanders.
A source from the HTS in Jisr al-Shughur told North Press that units from the General Security Service (GSS) of the HTS launched a widespread campaign of raids in the eastern and southern neighborhoods of Jisr al-Shughur, as well as the villages of al- Ya’qoubiya and Jadida, and al-Qunyah in its countryside.
The source added that during the campaign, the group managed to arrest nine individuals, including former militants of the group, out of approximately 40 wanted individuals. The charges against them relate to “collaboration and espionage for external entities.”
The source further noted that most of the arrests were of individuals from the villages of al- Ya’qoubiya and Jadida.
The HTS did not find any wanted individuals in the city of Jisr al-Shughur or the village of al-Qunyah, according to the source.
