AANES about to finish establishing permanent camp in Syria’s Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – An official in Raqqa’s Civil Council, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), said on Monday that they have completed 80 percent of a newly established camp in Raqqa Governorate, north Syria.
At the beginning of 2023, Raqqa’ Civil Council started preparations for Adnaniah camp with the purpose of merging eight out of the 58 makeshift camps in Raqqa, as part of a plan to facilitate support for the displaced people there.
Jihad Hassan, the Deputy Head of the Social Affairs and Labor Committee in the Raqqa Civil Council, said that work on preparing the Adnaniah camp has reached 80 percent so far, after completing the sewage project and preparing and leveling the ground.
Hassan noted that the camp is prepared to accommodate from 2,500 to 3,000 families, with 250 families transferred to the camp from the Tel al-Bayaa makeshift camp east of the city of Raqqa. He also stated that other families will be relocated after the camp is fully prepared within a month from now.
He pointed out that the reason behind relocating the IDPs of camps is to organize the chaotic situation and facilitate aid and funding for the IDPs.
He stated that the camp was established in a public ownership, unlike the locations of makeshift camps which are privately owned and have caused problems between the IDPs and the landowners.
There are 58 makeshift camps in Raqqa that hold over 150,000 individuals, including 76,775 women and 60,398 children, according to a statistic obtained by North Press from Raqqa’s Civil Council.
