Turkey sends new military reinforcements to Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces sent on Monday a military convoy carrying logistic equipment and military vehicles to Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria, in tandem with the resumption of the military escalation between parties to the conflict.
Turkish forces stationed in more than 60 posts and military bases in areas held by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) in northwestern Syria after Turkey became directly involved in the region in 2018.
An official in the Kafr Lossin border crossing with Turkey told North Press that a Turkish military convoy including 12 military vehicles and logistic trucks, in addition to, armored vehicles entered Syrian territories and headed via the Bab al-Hawa- Idlib road to the city of Saraqib in eastern Idlib.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
In March 2020, Russia and Turkey reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.
