DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Counter-Terrorism Units of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced dismantling a cell of the Islamic State (ISIS), in cooperation with the US-led Coalition forces, in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The SDF stated on its official website that the SDF’s Counter-Terrorism Units (YAT) and the US-led Coalition forces conducted a joint security operation against an ISIS cell, including one Emir involved in supplying ISIS cells with weapons and ammunition for carrying out operations in the region.
The SDF further stated that, with precise air support from the US-led Coalition, YAT units conducted a raid on the house where the ISIS cell was hiding. The operation took place in the town of Markada, in northeast of the city of Deir ez-Zor.
“The operation resulted in two terrorists being apprehended and one was killed as he adamantly declined to heed the call for safe surrender,” the statement said.
Various military equipment were seized during the operation, including Ak-47 ammunition, two grenades, and three smartphones, among other things, the statement reads.
