SDF takes custody of ISIS leader in north Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) took on Wednesday custody of Abu Halil al-Fad’ani, an operational and facilitation official in Islamic State (ISIS), following his capture in northern Syria by the US-led Global Coalition a few days ago.

On Monday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced their forces carried out a helicopter raid on Sep. 23 and arrested al-Fad’ani.

The SDF Media Center said, in a statement, that interrogations are now underway, focusing on his involvement in crimes against civilians and his orchestrations of terrorist activities across several countries.

The SDF underscored the enduring strength of partnership and commitment to continued joint operations with the Global Coalition in north and east Syria to eliminate ISIS cells.

ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghuz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.

After Baghuz, thousands of ISIS militants were transferred to prisons, while their families were transferred to Hawl and Roj camps in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)-held areas.
