Turkish authorities deport Moroccan to Syria
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a platform dedicated to migrant affairs published an appeal, urging Turkish authorities to repatriate a Moroccan citizen they had deported days earlier to the city of Jarablus, northern Syria.
According to the Migrants Now platform, Ismail al-Zou, aged 22, arrived in Turkey at the beginning of 2023 on a 3-month tourist visa. In late April, the Turkish authorities arrested him near his place of residence in Istanbul and prevented him from returning home to bring his official documents.
The platform added that he was transferred to a refugee detention center in the city of Kilis, southern Turkey, where he stayed for more than two months. Then he was deported to northern Syria through Bab al-Salama border crossing.
After confirming that he was a Moroccan citizen, the border administration returned him to the province of Gaziantep, where he spent three months in a detention center there.
The Turkish authorities deported the young Moroccan man last week to the city of Jarablus, northern Syria, according to the platform.
Al-Zou, through the platform, is appealing to his country’s embassy in Turkey and human rights organizations to take immediate action to repatriate him to Morocco as soon as possible.
In mid-August, the Turkish authorities deported two Moroccan tourists along with a group of Syrian refugees to northern areas of Syria via Bab al-Salama border crossing, north of Aleppo. After they presented their documents, the Turkish authorities brought took them back to Turkey.
