Jordanian, Iranian FMs discuss Syrian crisis, drug smuggling
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, met on Saturday with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir Abdullahian, and discussed bilateral and regional issues, including the Syrian crisis and smuggling of drugs.
Safadi and Abdullahian met on the sideline of UN General Assembly session and talked about the Syrian crisis and Arab and UN efforts to resolve it in agreement with the step-for step approach and the UN Security Council Resolution 2254 “in a way to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity and restore security and stability to the country,” according to the statement of the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Safadi stressed the need to stop the threats that the Syrian crisis is posing to Jordan’s security and the region “especially the threat of drug smuggling, which Jordan will continue to take all necessary steps to defeat.”
Safadi reiterated in the meeting that Jordan seeks to end all tensions in the region and “enjoy good relations with Iran based on the principles of good neighborliness and non-interference in internal affairs.”
