Officer killed in government-NDF clashes in Syria’s Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Clashes between the Syrian government forces and their affiliated National Defense Forces (NDF) militia inside the government-held neighborhoods in the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, resulted in the killing of a government officer and the injury of an entire family.
The residents in the government-held neighborhoods in Hasakah held a funeral for Abdurrahman Saeed al-Haj, an officer in the government forces. Al-Haj who was killed in the clashes on Wednesday, hails from southern Syria.
Hasakah witnesses relative calm as heavy machinery were withdrawn from the city following violent clashes broke out on Wednesday, between the government forces and the NDF.
In mid-August, Hasakah witnessed security tension after Abdul Qadir Hamo, the NDF commander in Hasakah, physically assaulted Sheikh Abdul Aziz Muhammad al-Meslet, a leader in the Jubur tribe, and his nephew, enraging the tribe’s members who later took to the streets in Hasakah demanding the government hand over Hamo.
Later, the government forces seized the NDF posts. Since then the government-held neighborhoods witness tension between the two parties.
