Unknown gunmen attack 3 SDF, Asayish posts in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen targeted on Wednesday three checkpoints of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A military source within the SDF said unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle attacked an Asayish post with machineguns in the town of Gharanij in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, without reporting casualties.
The source told North Press unknown gunmen carried out another attack on an SDF checkpoint in the town of Daranj, eastern Deir ez-Zor, causing only material damage.
In a separated incident, a military post of the SDF on the outskirts of the town of Shuhail, eastern Deir ez-Zor, was targeted with machineguns, which was followed by periodic clashes that lasted for minutes where the attackers were forced to retreat.
The Iranian-backed militias and the Syrian government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells.
