Israel warns Iranian-backed militia in Syria from conducting attacks

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israel’s military intelligence warned an Iranian-backed militia operating in Syria of carrying out attacks against Israel, an Israeli radio reported on Tuesday.

The Israeli Army Radio, Galei Tsahal, said that Israel sent warning to the Iranian-backed Imam Hussein Brigade militia, which is considered a source of concern for the Israeli Military Intelligence of the Israel Defense Forces (AMAN).

They also added that the militia, made-up of sub-units operating in Syria, is recruiting thousands of militants to conduct strikes against Israel, including carrying out weapons smuggling in Syria and Jordan.

They placed focus on the commander of the militia, Zulfiqar Hanawi, 42, who led a militia affiliated with the Lebanese Hezbollah and is considered by some AMAN officers as the successor of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander, Qassem Soleimani.

Hanawi has enhanced the level of his forces and conduct operations against the US forces and Israel, and is involved in smuggling weapons from Iran to Syria and Lebanon.

The Israeli warning came as the militia owns Iranian-made drones, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, and has military patrols and fortified positions.
