Turkish border guards kill Syrian asylum seeker in Syria’s Azaz

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – A Syrian young man was killed on Tuesday at night at the hands of Turkish border guards while he was trying to get into Turkey illegally from the village of Shamarin in the city of Azaz, north of Aleppo.

Mustafa Khalil, 22, was killed by the border guards while trying to get into Turkey illegally, looking for a job, a source close to Khalil told North Press.

Khalil hails from the town of Ratyan in northwest of Aleppo.

On Sept. 15, Turkish border guards shot at asylum seekers who tried to cross the border into Turkey from Hasakah Governorate in northeast Syria, injuring three and arresting 15.

Most of those who try to enter Turkish territory resort to dangerous smuggling routes to reunite their families or get a job opportunity to meet their needs, especially in light of poor living and economic conditions people suffer from in northwestern Syria. They use the Turkish territory to cross to Europe aiming at seeking asylum.
