Turkish men shoot dead Syrian refugee in Turkey’s Adana

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A Syrian refugee was shot and killed on Monday by Turkish men in Adana province, southern Turkey, marking the second such incident within days, reflecting an escalation in racial attacks in Turkey.

According to activists citing the young man’s family, 31-year-old Ahmad Madrati, a father, lost his life after being shot by Turkish young men at his workplace in Adana.

They added that while Madrati was at his mobile phone shop, Turkish young men entered and demanded that he give them a phone without payment. When he refused, one of the invaders shot and killed him.

On Saturday, a Syrian refugee from Aleppo, northern Syria, was shot dead by the owner of a factory in Konya province, Turkey, after demanding his salary.

The Syrian opposition’s Syrian National Coalition (SNC) condemned the murder of Madrati saying, “The hate speech promoted by certain parties and individuals has put refugees under tremendous stress and subjected them to threats and extortions. In many cases, it put their lives in danger and even led to murders.”

Recently, there has been a notable increase in racial attacks targeting Syrian refugees, particularly in Istanbul and Izmir in Turkey. These attacks have coincided with a significant deportation campaign targeting Syrian refugees residing within Turkish territory.
