SNA hands over 5 Kurdish detainees to Turkey in Syria’s Sere Kaniye
SERE KANIYE, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), handed over five detainees to Turkish authorities in the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria, where they were detained.
A security source said that five people were arrested in June in an arrest campaign launched by the SNA in the town of al-Mabrouka, west of Sere Kaniye.
The detainees were transported to Turkish prisons in the Turkish city of Urfa, according to the source.
The detainees are Kurdish young men and they were arrested while trying to cross the Syrian-Turkish border to seek asylum in Europe.
However, they were investigated and charged with “security issues.”
The Military Police, affiliated with the SNA, transported the Kurdish young people to Counterterrorism Center when they were arrested.
Sere Kaniye has been under the occupation of the Turkish forces and has been controlled by the SNA factions since 2019 following the so-called “Peace Spring” military operation that aimed to push away the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) under the pretext of protecting the Turkish national security.
