Turkish forces send military reinforcements to NW Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces sent on Sunday night a new military convoy to the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria amid ongoing military escalation between parties to the conflict in the region.
A military source in the National Front for Liberation affiliated with the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), said a Turkish military convoy consisting of 15 military, logistics and armored vehicles entered through the Kafr Lossin border crossing into Syrian territories and headed to Turkish posts in Zawiya Mountain in the south of Idlib.
The source told North Press the convoy included 12 armored vehicles and three trucks loaded with ammunition and logistic equipment believed to be for the purpose of reinforcing the Turkish posts near contact lines with the government forces in the south of Idlib.
These reinforcements came following the attack on an armored vehicle on Idlib-Bab al-Hawa road on Sep. 11.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment between Syrian government forces and opposition factions accompanied by Russian warplanes’ flight despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
In March 2020, Russia and Turkey reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.
