QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press lodged a complaint with nine rapporteurs of the UN regarding acts of torture, arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance in prisons run by the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka Syrian National Army (SNA), committed against the civilians who entered areas-held by the SNA to seek asylum in Europe. This comes as a part of the forum “Cemeteries with no Tombstones” held by the Monitoring and Documentation Department and addressed human rights violations committed by the SNA in these prisons, the competent involved the special desired procedures, outputs and recommendations from the participants of forum from the three regions of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), Afrin, and Tel Abyad, human rights defenders, jurists, activists, and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
The complaint was submitted to nine UN special rapporteurs:
- The special rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
- The special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions.
- The special rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.
- The special rapporteur on minority issues.
- The special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Syria.
- The special rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons.
- The special rapporteur on the human rights of migrants.
- The Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
- The working group on enforced and involuntary disappearances.
