Government forces withdraw from checkpoint in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces withdrew on Wednesday from one of their military checkpoints in Daraa al-Balad neighborhood in the city of Daraa, southern Syria.

An exclusive source told North Press, “The Government forces evacuated their soldiers from al-Barid checkpoint in Daraa al-Balad.”

The source added that the evacuated soldiers were affiliated with Division 15 and were transferred along with the contents of the checkpoint to a stadium in Daraa city, which has been used as a headquarters for government operations since 2011.

Al-Barid checkpoint was one of the checkpoints established in Daraa al-Balad as part of the settlement agreement in 2021, after the area witnessed a military operation that lasted for about a month and a half, ending with an agreement between the forces’ officers and members of the central committee.

The source pointed out that there were nine military checkpoints, and the agreement stipulated that they would be withdrawn after a period not exceeding six months. However, the government forces did not adhere to the agreement.

Moreover, the government forces have evacuated several military checkpoints in the past few days, with the most recent being al-Bahr checkpoint, one of the main checkpoints in Daraa al-Balad.
