SDF arrests ISIS leader in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Monday the arrest of a leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) in a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, on September 3.
The SDF said in a statement that during search operations carried out in the town of al-Basira, they apprehended a prominent ISIS leader who was responsible for the group’s financial affairs in the so-called “Wilayat al-Sham”.
The statement further explained that the operation was based on confirmed intelligence, and the SDF raided a house where the leader, identified as Yahya Ahmad al-Hajji, also known as Abu Baraa al-Hasan, was hiding.
The SDF mentioned that al-Hajji was a leader in the military command structure of the group, and he was responsible for financing “terrorist cells” in the region.
The statement also noted that al-Hajji served as an assistant to Ma’moun al-Shami who was the overall head of the Financial Committee in ISIS during its control over Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa Governorate, north Syria, years ago.
