Government forces remove two posts in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian government forces removed on Saturday two of their posts in the city of Daraa in southern Syria after setting it up two years ago.

Soldiers of the government forces removed two military posts in the city including al-Shallal and Madrasat al-Quneitra in Tariq al-Sad neighborhood, an exclusive source told North Press.

The source said the two posts were set up during the military operation against the city in 2021 that lasted a month and a half and ended with an agreement stipulated the setting up of nine military posts of the government forces in the city.

The reasons behind the removal are still unknown. However, unidentified individuals attacked the Madrasat al-Quneitra post two days ago and beat the soldiers and took their weapons, according to the source.

Recently, Daraa has witnessed protests through which the protesters demanded “the overthrow of the Syrian regime” in tandem with the deteriorating economic conditions. Also, a state of insecurity has spread in Daraa including killing since the government has taken control over it in 2018.

In July 2018, the opposition armed factions and Syrian the government forces reached a ceasefire agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa. Under the deal, the opposition armed factions agreed to hand over their weapons in exchange for staying in Daraa, and those who opposed the agreement were deported to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front).
