Four people killed in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, two individuals were killed by unidentified gunmen, and a mother and her son lost their lives in an explosion of remnants of war in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.
A local source informed North Press that two unidentified gunmen had opened fire at two men, killing them immediately. One of the killed men used to work for a group affiliated with the Syrian government forces.
“The two men, Nizar al-Khatib and Muhammad al-Khatib were killed in the city of Nawa, in the western countryside of Daraa,” the source added.
“Nizar used to serve within a military group of the Security Branch, affiliated with the government forces, in addition, he was a drug dealer and involved in looting and acts of banditry,” the source said.
The source additionally mentioned that Nizar had been a target of several assassination attempts, with the most recent occurring last April, which resulted in injuries to him.
In a separate incident, a local source told North Press that Nadia Awda and her son Hamad Awda, hail from Lajat area, east of Daraa, were killed in a “cluster bomb explosion” while working in a farm in the city of Jasim in the northern countryside of Daraa.
Reportedly, remnants of war have killed hundreds of civilians, particularly children, since the Syrian government forces controlled the area in 2018, without serious and sustained action to remove IEDs and remnants of war from agricultural and residential areas.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
