Iraqi forces arrest 10 ISIS militants in 24 hours
ERBIL, Syria (North Press) – The Iraqi forces announced on Saturday the arrest of at least ten militants of the Islamic State (ISIS), including a member of the group’s media wing, in a series of operations in various areas over the past 24 hours.
The Iraqi Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency stated in a statement that four militants were arrested in Nineveh Governorate, adjacent to the northeastern Syrian border.
The four individuals were apprehended in a “meticulously planned” ambush, according to the statement. Through the investigation, they confessed to their affiliation with the grpup, specifically with what is known as the “Yamama Brigade, Diwan al-Jund, Diyala Province, and General Camps,” and they were receiving financial rewards for their activities.
Earlier in the day, the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service announced the arrest of a member of ISIS media in an operation based on high-level directives.
The statement indicated that the individual was responsible for disseminating fatwas (religious edicts) on behalf of the group and inciting people to join ISIS both inside and outside of Iraq.
The Intelligence Agency added that the “terrorist” was also involved in publishing publications and news related to the group, as well as researching and disseminating instructions on the preparation and manufacturing of explosives, suicide belts, improvised explosive devices, assassination methods, lightning attacks, and the production of medium weapons (launchers) using local materials. Additionally, he was involved in publishing news and statements.
Furthermore, he was “inciting” migration to areas under the control of the group in Africa.
Yesterday evening, the military intelligence announced the arrest of five suspects affiliated with ISIS in the provinces of Baghdad and Anbar.
