Khabur River flows to Syria’s Hasakah after floods in Turkey
TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Khabur River in the town of Tel Tamr in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria, flowed on Saturday after two months of water retention by Turkey. The river’s flow came as a result of floods spread in many areas of Turkey.
North Press correspondent reported on Saturday that the Khabur River flowed again after it completely dried in the beginning of summer.
This came after rainstorms hit Greece, Turkey and other states which led to the formation of torrents and floods in Turkey drowning entire villages and caused human and material losses.
The Khabur River was completely dry for two months, leading to the death of large numbers of fish, a decline in farming activities on its banks and the formation of swamp-like puddles filled with filth and mud.
Turkey has almost entirely blocked the river since the beginning of war in Syria except for some occasions to avoid floods in its territory caused by rainwater or the melting of snow on Turkish mountains.
