Armenian Social Council denounces sedition in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Armenian Social Council in Hasakah, northeast Syria, condemned on Thursday the act of sedition in the Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern the country. This act was perpetrated by Iran and the Syrian government, and it was instigated by Turkey.
The sedition intends to destabilize the region and undermine the progress of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) project.
“The aim of this sedition is to divide the union of Kurdish and Arab components, to eliminate the gains of the war against the Islamic State (ISIS) and the AANES project”, Lusnak Kafourian, head of the Women’s Committee of the Armenian Social Council, said.
She told North Press on the sidelines of a seminar held between the Kurdish Left Party in participation with the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) to discuss developments in Deir ez-Zor.
The seminar, entitled “Rejecting Sedition, Embracing Unity among the Diverse Components of North and East Syria,” witnessed the presence of numerous influential cultural and social figures, party representatives, and political movement members from various communities. Furthermore, tribal leaders from Hasakah actively participated in the event, which took place at Marbella Hall in the city of Hasakah.
Deir ez-Zor witnessed a tension and clashes that broke out between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and militants loyal to Damascus and Iran.
The Armenian Social Council was established in the city of Hasakah, on April 24, 2020 to address the Armenians’ affairs.
Kaforyan accused Turkey of fueling the tensions in the region and seeking to foil the project of the AANES, which it has sought since the beginning of the formation of the AANES.
“We, as Armenians, Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, and Yazidis, stand united as brothers and sisters. We refuse to let the enemy sow division among us. It is our responsibility to safeguard our region and prevent discord, vandalism, and destruction from tearing us apart,” she declared.
