Future Syria Party condemns Turkish attacks on Syria’s Manbij

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – The Future Syria Party condemned on Tuesday Turkey’s shelling of villages in the countryside of the city of Manbij, northern Syria.

This coincides with tension in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and armed groups affiliated with the Syrian government and Iranian-backed factions.

This came following a military operation called “Security Reinforcement” launched by the SDF against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria. The SDF later announced the dismissal of commander of Deir ez-Zor Military Council, Ahmad al-Khabil, known as Abu Khawla, from duty, for his involvement in crimes and violations.

The operation led to the eruption of clashes between the SDF and gunmen affiliated with the dismissed leader and with Nawaf al-Bashir, leader of al-Baggara tribe and a pro-Iranian figure whose groups are active in the western bank of the Euphrates which is under the control of the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias.

The Future Syria Party organized a sit-in to denounce the Turkish attacks on the city, with the participation of residents of Manbij and its components.

Muhammad Barkel, official in the Future Syria Party, stated that the goal of the sit-in is to denounce the aggressions of Turkey and its affiliated armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), against Manbij and the killing of children.

Barkel added that Manbij, with all its clans, sects, and components, is against the strife that is “sponsored by hostile countries” in Deir ez-Zor. He called for not being drawn into those plans and for maintaining the security of the region.
