Mutual shelling in NW Syria causes displacement
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of families in several areas in Idlib Governorate, northwest Syria, started to displace due to the intense military escalation by the Syrian government forces supported by Russian air force.
People of the villages and towns of Iblin, Balyun, al-Bara, and the eastern villages of Zawiya Mountain in the south of Idlib, the city of Sarmin, and the town of Afes in the east of Idlib, left their homes fleeing the military escalation between the government forces and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front), towards the border areas with Turkey in the north of Idlib, field sources told North Press.
The number of the families displaced in the past 48 hours exceeded more than 75, most of them headed to the IDP camps on the Syrian-Turkish border, north of Idlib, the sources added.
Since mid-August, the areas of northwestern Syria have witnessed a military escalation and mutual shelling between the Syrian government forces supported by Russia, and HTS, resulting in the killing and injury of dozens from both sides, amid fears of a new military operation by the government in the area.
