Turkish border guards injure 5 Syrian asylum seekers

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Five individuals were injured on Monday by Turkish border guards gunfire in the countryside of Idlib and Hasakah, north and northeast Syria, while attempting to cross into Turkish territory. Additionally, 18 other individuals, including women, were detained.

An exclusive source told North Press that “three individuals were injured by the border guards gunfire while attempting to cross into Turkish territory from the village of Azmarin in western Idlib. Eleven others, including women, were detained and transported to the observation point in the village in preparation for their transfer to a detention center.”

In a similar context, two individuals were injured by the border guards gunfire, and seven others were detained while attempting to cross into Turkey from the vicinity of the town of Mabrouka, in the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), north of Hasakah.

Exclusive sources informed North Press that the number of injured Syrians who were shot by the Turkish border guards while attempting to cross the border has reached ten individuals since the beginning of September.

Most of those who try to enter Turkish territory resort to dangerous smuggling routes to reunite their families or get a job opportunity to meet their needs, especially in light of poor living and economic conditions people suffer from in northwestern Syria.
