5 government soldiers kidnaped by ISIS found dead in Syria’s Homs
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A patrol of the Syrian government forces found on Sunday the dead bodies of five of its soldiers who went missing days ago in the town of al-Sukhnah in the eastern countryside of Homs, central Syria.
A military source within the government forces told North Press that shepherds notified a patrol of their forces about the five bodies in al-Sukhnah.
The source added that the bodies belonged to members of the Division 18 of the government forces who were kidnapped in an Islamic State (ISIS) ambush in al-Sukhnah desert.
The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of the area of Syria, and is distributed over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda and Palmyra.
Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by the ISIS sleeper cells.
