SDF arrests ISIS militant in Syria’s Hasakah
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday the arrest of a militant of Islamic State (ISIS) in a town south of Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria, as part of the “Security Reinforcement” operation.
The SDF’s Media Center stated that on Friday the Counter-Terrorism Units (YAT) of the SDF, in cooperation with the US-led Global Coalition and the Counter-Terrorism Group in Kurdistan Region of Iraq (CTG), targeted an ISIS militant in the town of Dashisha, south of Hasakah.
On Aug. 27, the SDF launched a military operation called “Security Reinforcement” with the support of the US-led Global Coalition on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, specifically in Deir ez-Zor, “to eradicate ISIS sleeper cells, pursue criminals responsible for perpetrating injustices against the local population, and to track down smugglers who exploit the populace’s livelihoods.”
The ISIS militant was arrested through a “precise security operation” as part of the SDF’s campaign in Deir ez-Zor.
The Media Center also noted that the operation was supported and monitored by the Global Coalition through aerial surveillance, as the apprehended individual was involved in smuggling and supplying weapons to the cells.
The SDF seized a number of weapons and equipment found in the possession of the arrested individual.
