Tribes in north Syria denounce “strife” pervading Deir ez-Zor
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Tribal leaders in northern Syria denounced on Thursday the recent events in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, affirming that the “acts of sabotage in Deir ez-Zor” are irrelevant to the tribes of the area.”
Deir ez-Zor is witnessing clashes and tension between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and gunmen following the recently launched operation by the SDF against the Islamic State (ISIS).
On August 27, the SDF launched “Operation Security Reinforcement” against ISIS in Deir ez-Zor with the support of the US-led Global Coalition.
The tribal leaders said in a statement, “The recent incidents in Deir ez-Zor do not have any connection to the tribes, as claimed by some media outlets.”
“The troops operating in the operation belong to the local tribes,” the statement read.
The statement also added that the recent events in Deir ez-Zor are incited by outside actors to create unrest.
On Wednesday, six SDF fighters and two civilians were killed by unknown gunmen in Deir ez-Zor.
