Indiscriminate gunfire injures three civilians in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Indiscriminate shooting wounded three civilians on Tuesday following a security operation declared by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
The military operation called “Security Reinforcement” was launched by the SDF with the support of the US-led Global Coalition against ISIS sleeper cells in Deir ez-Zor on Aug. 27.
A recent statement by the SDF said they target “wanted criminal militants involved in drug trade and arms smuggling in the town of al-Ozba in the east of Deir ez-Zor” without revealing further details.
Ali al-Qar’ani, 50, sustained injuries from indiscriminate bullets during an armed attack that targeted an SDF patrol in the town of al-Tayana in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
He was taken to a field hospital in the al-Tayana. Eyewitnesses said he “is in an extremely critical condition.”
The SDF said on Tuesday they arrested three Islamic State (ISIS) militants who attacked an SDF patrol on the Suwar-Markadah road in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
In the town of Diban in the east of Deir ez-Zor, Ali Nuwayser, 19, was shot by indiscriminate bullets in the chest in tandem with gunfire sounds in the town, according to Taha al-Hamad, a local from the town.
Al-Hamad added that Nuwayser was taken to Diban Hospital and is “in a very critical condition.”
Nuwayser is an IDP who came from areas in the west of the Euphrates River under the control of government forces and does not belong to any political or military group.
In the town of Gharanij in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, Ibrahim Abdulhai, 21, was shot in the shoulder by indiscriminate bullets while he was on the roof of his house.
The SDF has not revealed the toll of the third day of its security operation Security Reinforcement in the Deir ez-Zor so far.
