IRGC meets with NDF leaders in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) held on Tuesday a closed-door meeting with leaders of the National Defense Forces (NDF) affiliated with the Syrian government forces in the city of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A military source within the NDF said senior leaders of the IRGC held a closed-door meeting that lasted three hours with the leaders of the NDF in the al-Jura neighborhood in the city of Deir ez-Zor.
The NDF is a military formation that was founded by the Syrian government and fought along with it during the years of war.
He told North Press the meeting was not pre-planned. According to information leaked by NDF leaders, the meeting discussed the security situation in areas east of the Euphrates River, which are under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The Iranian-backed militias and Syrian government forces control vast swathes of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
According to the source, leaders of the NDF made several decisions after the meeting ended, such as reinforcing military posts on the banks of the Euphrates River, putting the forces in high alert status.
