Grenade blast wounds five people in Syria’s Afrin
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – An explosion caused by a grenade injured five people on Tuesday evening in the city of Afrin, northwest Syria.
A few children found a grenade and brought it home, where it exploded, a local source told North Press.
Afrin has been under the occupation of Turkey and the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), since 2018 following a military operation dubbed “Olive Branch” against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) under the pretext of preserving “Turkey’s national security.”
The operation caused the displacement of about 300,000 of the original inhabitants of the Kurds of Afrin who have been taking shelter in 42 villages and five camps in Aleppo northern countryside, locally known as Shahba region, since then.
The source said the explosion led to the injury of five people including a woman and a child. They sustained mild injuries and were hospitalized.
Remnants of war kill and wound hundreds of people in various areas in Syria, especially areas that witnessed major fighting and controlled by multiple factions.
