IFJ urges Turkey to investigate killing media employee in NE Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) urged on Monday the authorities of Turkey to launch an immediate investigation and to hold the perpetrators accountable regarding the killing of a media employee and the injury of a journalist in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria.

On August 23, a Turkish drone targeted a car transporting journalists of the all-female JIN TV channel in the city of Qamishli, killing driver Najm al-Din Faisal Haj Sinan and injuring journalist Dalila Agid.

The FJI restated the demand that journalists and media workers must not be targeted and they should be allowed to perform their work without interference.

A team of Jin TV journalists were travelling on assignment in a media company car near Qamishli when the vehicle was hit by a suspected Turkish drone.

Sinan is the 17th media worker to be killed in 2023 so far, according to IFJ.

On August 26, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) urged Turkey to immediately initiate a thorough investigation in the attack.
