Armed attack kills Iranian militant in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown individuals shot on Monday a militant of an Iranian-backed militia in the town of al-Masrib in Deir ez-Zor western countryside, eastern Syria.

“Unknown gunmen riding a motorbike opened fire on a car of Villages Guards near a popular restaurant in the center of al-Masrib,” a military source of the militia said.

The attack resulted in the killing of Shahin al-Hassan, 37, a militant of the Iranian-backed Villages Guards, who hails from the town of al-Sukhnah, east of Homs.

The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of the area of Syria, and is distributed over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda and Palmyra.

Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by the ISIS sleeper cells.
