Turkish soldiers assault Syrians trying to cross border
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards assaulted on Monday evening a number of Syrians while trying to cross the border to Turkey from Idlib Governorate in northwest Syria.
The Turkish border guards brutally assaulted 15 young men in the village of Teloul in the town of Salqin, northwest of Idlib, a local source said.
The border guards arrested the young men and handed them over to Bab al-Hawa crossing with northwest Syria, the source told North Press.
On Monday, the border guards arrested seven Syrians and injured three others while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border from the town of Mabrouka in the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), north of Hasakah Governorate in northeast Syria.
The number of individuals injured by the Turkish border guards’ gunfire during August has exceeded 35, including six women, amid ongoing violations against individuals attempting to cross the border illegally, according to private sources cited by North Press.
Most of those who try to enter Turkish territory resort to dangerous smuggling routes to reunite their families or get a job opportunity to meet their needs, especially in light of poor living and economic conditions people suffer from in northwestern Syria.
