Turkish border guards injure 3 Syrian asylum seekers
SERE KANIYE, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, three individuals were injured and seven others were detained by Turkish border guards while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border from the town of Mabrouka in the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), north of Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria.
An exclusive source informed North Press that the border guards shot and injured three individuals after bypassing the border.
The source added that seven others were also detained by the border guards after they crossed the border. They were transported to the monitoring center opposite the city of Serekaniye, in preparation for their transfer to a detention center in Urfa, Turkey.
The source further noted that the border guards are collecting the biometric data and personal information of the individuals to prevent them from entering Turkish territory permanently. They will be deported through the Tel Abyad crossing to northern Syria at a later time.
The number of individuals injured by Turkish border guards’ gunfire during August has exceeded 35, including six women, amid ongoing violations against individuals attempting to cross the border illegally, according to private sources cited by North Press.
