Syria’s AANES announces start date of new academic year
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) has announced on Monday the start date for the new academic year for students in schools.
The Education Board in the AANES stated that the academic year 2023-2024 will begin on September 3, 2023, with administrative work starting first. Students will commence actual classes a week after the start of administrative work.
The Education Board mentioned several obstacles that hindered the educational process in the region. These included the continuous shelling by Turkish drones and aircraft, as well as the destructive earthquake that affected Syria and Turkey.
These obstacles have led to the closure of dozens of schools. There are other material-related obstacles as well, which are related to the overall conditions of the AANES and the inability to achieve effective community participation in the educational process, according to the board.
