Journalists in Syria’s Qamishli condemn Turkish drone strike

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Journalists gathered in front of UN office in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria, to condemn the Turkish drone strike against their colleagues.

On Wednesday, a Turkish drone targeted a car transporting journalists of a local TV channel in the city of Qamishli, killing one and injuring others.

“Turkey aims at silencing all those who work on documenting the crimes and violations it commits,” Co-head of the Free Media Union (FMU), Dilyar Jezeiri, told North Press, describing the strike as “a blatant violation of the international covenants.”

The Free Media Union (FMU) is an independent institution involved in protecting and preserving the rights of the journalists and media activists in the areas held by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

He condemned the frequent Turkish attacks on north and east Syria, “especially against the journalists.”

On Wednesday, Media Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said the “Turkish occupation state continues using the term ‘combating terrorism’ to target the journalists.”

The Media Department condemned the Turkish drone attack and demanded the international community to bring the “crimes of the Turkish occupation” to an end.   

Jezeiri demanded international parties to protect them and stop Turkish attacks against the journalists in NE Syria.
