Turkish border guards kill Syrian asylum seeker in Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a young man was killed by Turkish border guards while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border with a group of people in Idlib Governorate, northwest Syria.

Local sources informed North Press that Ibrahim al-Fahl, 20, lost his life after being shot in the head by the border guards while attempting to cross the border near the town of Babesqa, north of Idlib.

Al-Fahel hails from the town of Kafr Daryan in northern Idlib and was on his way to Turkey looking for a job, according to the source.

On Monday at night, the border guards attacked a group of Syrians while attempting to cross the border in the countryside of Afrin, northwest Syria.

As of the first half of 2023, the number of affected Syrian asylum seekers has reached 452 individuals, including 20 children and 26 women. Tragically, 25 people were killed and 121 others were injured during direct targeting by live bullets while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border. In addition, Turkish border guards have assaulted and beat 306 individuals and have used excessive force to prevent them from crossing the border.
