Government forces shell Syria’s Daraa in tandem with protests
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces shelled on Monday night a city in the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, with artillery shells while dozens of locals took to the streets to protest.
A local source told North Press that the government forces stationed in Tel al-Hash in the west of Daraa indiscriminately attacked the city of Nawa, west of Daraa, with mortar shells and heavy machine guns.
The source added that the attack on the city came in tandem with protest by dozens of locals demanding to “overthrow the regime.”
The government forces fired at the protestors first then started attacking the city with artillery shells, the source noted.
In the past few days, anti-government protests expanded in Daraa Governorate demanding “overthrow the regime” to enhance the deteriorating economic conditions across Syria.
