Israeli airstrike targets Damascus, wounds soldier
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli airstrikes hit the vicinity of the Syrian capital, Damascus, on late Monday, injuring one soldier.
Syria’s state-run SANA news agency citing military officials, said that Israel launched missiles from the direction of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights targeting military posts near Damascus causing material damage and injuring one soldier.
On August 7, an Israeli airstrike killed four Syrian soldiers in the vicinity of Damascus.
The Golan Heights have been occupied by Israel since 1967 and were officially annexed in 1981. The United States recognized Israeli sovereignty over Golan in 2019. Most of the international community considers it an illegal occupation.
Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes inside Syria over the past few years, targeting what it says to be Iranian-backed militia’s strongholds to disrupt Iran’s increasing use of aerial supply lines to deliver arms to allies in Syria and Lebanon, including Hezbollah.
The agency also reported that the air defenses of the Syrian government forces countered some of the missiles.
