Government forces arrest 50 individual in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces arrested 50 individuals in their controlled areas in the southern countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria, over the past 48 hours.

A local source told North Press that the Military Security apparatus of the government forces have started a raid and arrest campaign for three days in several villages and towns in the southern countryside of Idlib.

The campaign targeted over 50 individuals, the majority of whom recently returned to the area after years of displacement in northern Syrian areas, according to the source.

The campaign mainly targeted the areas of Khan Shaykhun, al-Tamanah, Hesh, Deir al-Sharqi, and Hobait, the source noted.

The source indicated that most of those arrestees were individuals who were in opposition-held areas and returned to their villages after announcing settlement.

The campaign targeted individuals between the ages of 17 and 50, all wanted by the Military Security apparatus to serve the military service and the military reserve service, according to the sources.

On August 9, the town of Khan Shaykhun witnessed a raid and arrest campaign carried out by government forces targeting dozens of residents of the city, all wanted by the Military Security apparatus to serve the military reserve service.

The government forces controlled Khan Shaykhun in mid-August 2019 during a military campaign on the countryside of Hama and Idlib.
