Turkish border guards shoot two Syrians, arrest others
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards shot on Monday two civilians while attempting to cross the border from a village in Idlib Governorate, northwest Syria. They also arrested five others.
An exclusive source told North Press that the two young men, Saif Burhan and Muhammad Haj Khaled, were shot by the Turkish border guards while attempting to cross into Turkey from the village of Azmarin in northwest of Idlib.
After crossing the border, the border guards arrested five civilians, including a girl, along with the two young men. They transferred them to a security center located near Azmarin, in preparation for their transfer to a detention center in Antakya, a province in southwest Turkey, the source added.
The Turkish forces took their iris scans and finger prints to prevent them from entering Turkey, the exclusive source said.
It is expected that they will be deported back to Syrian territories through Bab al-Hawa border crossing, according to the source.
Most of those who try to enter Turkish territory resort to dangerous smuggling routes to reunite their families or get a job opportunity to meet their needs, especially in light of poor living and economic conditions people suffer from in northwestern Syria.
