Government forces-HTS mutual shelling in NW Syria causes casualties
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – A militant of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front) was killed and four others were injured on Sunday in a rocket attack launched by the Syrian government forces stationed in Regiment 46, west of Aleppo.
An exclusive source told North Press that the injured people were transported to the National Hospital in the city of Idlib, northwest Syria.
The source added that the HTS shelled posts of the government forces at the Regiment 46, using heavy artillery.
They also targeted their own positions on the Urum al-Kubra outskirt, west of Aleppo, and the town of al-Bara in southern Idlib.
In response, the government forces launched a similar shelling, targeting areas where the HTS was positioned.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
In March 2020, Russia and Turkey reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.
