SNA tortures intellectually disabled in Syria’s Sere Kaniye
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka Syrian National Army (SNA), tortured on Saturday an intellectually disabled man in the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria, claiming that he molests women.
Local sources told North Press that Civil Police, affiliated with the SNA, tortured Ahmad al-Sophy under the pretext of molesting a young woman.
The Civil Police assaulted the man in front of a crowd of civilians, resulting in severe bleeding in his left eye and nose, as well as fractures in his body, without his family being able to intervene to protect him, according to the source.
The source further informed that the Civil Police dragged away al-Sophy and beat him with sharp instruments until he passed out.
The young man was transferred to the city’s hospital. He has been placed under police custody, and they intend to arrest him once he recovers.
Acts of assault against civilians by the SNA in Turkish-occupied areas in northern Syria are repeated, accompanied by “baseless justifications.” Civilians are unable to defend themselves for fear of fabricated charges against them, such as accusations of collaborating with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
North Press held on August 15 a dialogue session that discussed the state of human rights and violations in Sere Kaniye. The dialogue session presented a comprehensive report on those violations titled “Atrocities committed by SNA in Turkish-occupied areas in north Syria”.
