AANES appeals for international support in trying ISIS fighters

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) ــ On Monday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) called on the international community to provide support and assistance in implementing the judicial process for prosecuting Islamic State (ISIS) fighters.

The AANES’ appeal came in a statement to the public opinion in which it reiterated its commitment to continue fighting ISIS.

The AANES said in its statement which was published on its official website, “We suffer greatly from the presence ISIS detainees due to the need to secure their detention facilities and ensure the safety of the area from their threat.”

Furthermore, it added that the international community should provide all the necessary assistance to activate the judicial process for prosecuting ISIS fighters and achieving both community and international justice.

The fight against ISIS “came at a great cost paid by the people of North and East Syria, with more than 15,000 martyrs and tens of thousands of wounded. Their fight was on behalf of the entire world,” the statement read.

The statement touched upon the issue of ISIS children and emphasized the necessity of establishing a rehabilitation center for them to mitigate the potential risks they might pose in the future. It emphasized that any delay in addressing this matter could further complicate the situation.

In conclusion, the AANES expressed its full willingness to cooperate and provide care side by side with the international community and NGOs to protect these children’s lives and future.
