Jubur tribe in Hasakah demands government hand over military leader
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Jubur tribe demanded that the Syrian government forces in Hasakah hand over a commander of a pro-government militia following his assault on one of the tribe’s sheikhs.
Earlier today, the commander of the National Defense Forces (NDF) in Hasakah, Abdul Qadir Hamo, physically assaulted Sheikh Abdul Aziz Muhammad Sheikh Ahmad, a leader in the tribe.
A government source told North Press that a senior government military commander requested a meeting with the Jubur’s elders to resolve the dispute, “but they categorically refused.”
The source added that the tribal elders demanded the military commander to hand over Abdul Qadir Hamo, describing it as one of their nonnegotiable demands.
The source said that the Hasakah Governor, Luay Suleiman, is not currently present in Hasakah as he is on an official work mission in the capital, Damascus. He will cut short his visit and return tomorrow morning on a private plane to address the issue.
Social media platforms circulated video clips showing thousands of men, claiming they are members of the Jubur tribe heading towards the NDF headquarters in Hasakah.
