Syrian pound drops to historic low

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian pound (SYP) continues its rapid decline against the US dollar, as, on Sunday, the exchange rate of one dollar reached 13,700 SYP in most Syrian regions.

Owners of money exchange shops told North Press that the exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the greenback in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria, was 13,700 SYP for sale and 13,500 SYP for purchase.

In Aleppo, the exchange rate for one US dollar was 13,800 SYP for sale and 13,600 SYP for purchase, while in Idlib it was 13,750 SYP for sale and 13,650 SYP for purchase. In Damascus, it reached 13,450 SYP for purchase and 13,650 SYP for sale. In Hasakah, it was 13,650 SYP for sale and 13,600 SYP for purchase.

The Central Bank of Syria maintained the exchange rate of the dollar against the pound at 10,100 SYP against dollar, according to the latest bulletin of the Central Bank which was issued this morning.
