Syrian government sends military reinforcements to Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces sent on Sunday new “large” military convoys to the countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria. The reinforcements set off from the countryside of Homs Government, central Syria, military sources told North Press.
The convoy consists of more than 120 military trucks, including tanks and rocket launchers. It moved from al-Tayas area in the eastern countryside of Homs to the town of al-Mayadin in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, according to the sources.
The reinforcements followed the intensification of attacks carried out by Islamic State (ISIS) against government forces posts.
Two days ago, more than 40 soldiers of the government forces were killed or wounded in an attack launched by ISIS in Deir ez-Zor.
The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of the area of Syria, and is distributed over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda and Palmyra.
Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by the ISIS sleeper cells.
