War remnant blast kills young man in Syria’s Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, a young man was killed as a result of the explosion of a war remnant in Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria.
The landmine, likely to be of the remnants of the Islamic State group (ISIS), was exploded when the young man was passing through his farmland in the village of Sabe’ Skour in the east of Hasakah, early in the morning, local sources told North Press.
Photos went viral on social media that showed a severely-damaged car owned by Fahd Saeed, the 20-year-old man who was the victim of the explosion.
The remnants of the war in Syria are considered to be one of the most dangerous legacies of the decade-long conflict. The parties to the conflict, with the ISIS taking the lead, have planted IEDs and mines in areas under their control as well as in areas controlled by their enemies in order to protect themselves against attacks.
Since early 2023, landmines and war remnants have harmed about 600 people all over Syria, of which nearly 300 were killed and injured.
